Before you install

A few checks are part of a good download.

  1. Choose the right file

Check the release, CPU architecture, and installation type in the filename. Consult the project’s own documentation if you are unsure which image you need.

  2. Resume an interrupted download

Copy a file’s direct link from the directory into DOWNLOAD_URL. Curl can continue a partial download from the same file.

curl -C - -O "$DOWNLOAD_URL"Run in the directory containing your partial download.
  3. Compare the checksum

Calculate the downloaded file’s SHA-256 hash and compare it with the publisher’s checksum for that exact filename. Verify the signed checksum file when the publisher provides one.

    sha256sum /path/to/downloadOn macOS, use shasum -a 256.
